DAMASCUS SCHOOL
NAIROBI / KENYA
In 1999 the Damascus Nursery & S.H.G. School started
Pastor Idaki decided to use his church as a school during the week. Soon after he starded, children flocked the school, their intention, to learn. He was then forced to buy two residential houses and convert them into classrooms to accommodate the growing number of students. The school stands on a piece of land that measures about 40 x 40m. In their first 7 years, the school grew to cater for all the grades in the primery school. The school currently has over 600 students.
The school has 120 kindergarten pupils, 60 pre-school pupils and primary-school students from grade 1–8, each grade with more than 55 pupils.
The school has a total of 13 staff members, including the headmaster, cooks and security.
The parents are requested to contribute 100 Kshs (~1€) for maintenance, but most of the parents however cannot even afford this. Support is here needed to avoid for this children to be send back to their life on the dumping site.
